MAJA LENA BIRCH

Formerly of alt-folk band Low Chimes, Maja Lena is the solo moniker and Swedish nickname of Marianne Parrish. Earlier today she shared the magical lead track from her forthcoming debut album The Keeper. Tickling your senses with woody-sounding percussion that feels although it's dangling in the wind behind you, 'Birch' is both textural and transportive. Adding bite with thickly driven guitars and sparse, scratchy synthesizers, Parrish's lighter-than-air vocals soar effortlessly above the eclectic soundscape. She elaborates: “Birch is a song about feeling vulnerable yet elated. About starting a new phase of life and love, yet also knowing that this elation could be snatched away at any given moment. The Birch tree here is a symbol for this feeling, and its branches moving in the wind resemble a feeling of freedom and excitement." The Keeper will be released through Chiverin Records on the 23rd of July. -Holly Mullineaux
